I have been betting poker now for about 5 years, I’ve wagered cards my entire life beginning with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various forms of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so eloquently called, card on head casino game. I used to always win, whatever game we were playing and although I liked to call it skill, it was incredibly tough to justify thinking about the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was happy to accept I was having an extended run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or far more importantly Texas holdem Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card players in the 60’s and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever experienced. Poker is absolutely the new black, it truly is uber awesome with several of the world’s leading superstars racing to have their name associated with it. Just a quick flick through the TV channels nowadays and it is possible to not escape from poker, and naturally there’s the fabled World Series of Poker, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each individual player.
So with all of this new found popularity, with so several Tv shows devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are men and women going to understand that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I need to not get so worked up about this, after all the more men and women who wrestle with the subtle tactics and approaches needed for succeeding consistently at Texas hold’em, the much better it can be for everyone else, appropriate? I mean, if they can’t be bothered to read all of the accessible facts about why placement is so critical, why must we bother? We really should just be happy there’s another fish at the table!
It is true, we need to not encourage inactivity with advice and help. However, I liken this to a friendly game of football. Granted the levels aren’t so superior, but when you notice a gambler having difficulties, you assist them, offer them several advice, ultimately showing them a way to get pleasure from, really like and be grateful for the game as much as you. I’m asking all home gamblers to do the same thing with their poker friends who have not quite got a handle on the nuances of playing position. Aid them to grow their respect for the casino game. Obviously, don’t attempt to try this one in your neighborhood casino, the sharks will not take pleasure in you teaching their supper how to swim!
