Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
