Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
