Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved betting on numerous card games when he was young. The real advancement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL holdem.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world today. He relocated to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
