Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
