Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
