Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
