Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these card games as he was playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to play some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on the game.

The definite improvement in his abilities began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his logical thinking skills. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit hold’em.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world today. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the following decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
