Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
