Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved participating in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played countless hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus more on the game.

The real advancement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently wager against one another. He was able to access several of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
