Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
