The definite advancement in his skills began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. With their help, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
